Warehouses Condo – Washington Luiz

This project is included in a low income industrial and residential area. In urban terms It was characterized by the concern to improve life quality in the region. Indeed, the project seeks to create jobs in a very poor area, where intervention was necessary for its development. The Project aims to break the paradigm traditionally adopted by the industrial architecture which usually focuses only on the industrial process, discarding the humane vision. The Project concerns the implementation of the Cargo Center Washington Luiz II, a warehouse condo specialized in transshipment and storage of road freight in Washington Luiz Highway, in Duque de Caxias city - Rio de Janeiro. The project has 37,000.00 m2 of built area, distributed in an area of 157,000.00 m2. Its support building, where is located the changing rooms, cafeteria, offices and administrative areas, was designed in order to become a reference of the project. The night lighting, proposed by Constance Sandall, was one of the features adopted to highlight the venture. Innovative materials were used seeking integration with the surrounding landscape and exploring the characteristics of the steel, present in the industrial area. In addition optimization of sunlight was created by the membrane of the main facade. Indeed, the reduction of the building's internal temperature was remarkable, leading to reduction in cooling systems.
